Sean Carrie MB ChB FRCS FRCS (ORL)
Mr Sean Carrie is a consultant Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. He has a special interest in disorders of the nose (rhinology) in both adults and children. This involves both the medical and surgical management of nasal conditions including chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. He has a particular interest in surgery of the frontal sinus and the pituitary gland and has pioneered the use of image guidance surgery to reduce the risk of surgical complications. Further areas of interest include disorders of the sense of smell and facial pain. Mr Carrie also performs surgery for structural abnormalities of the nose for both cosmetic and post traumatic reasons. He undertakes rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) surgery using both external (open) and closed techniques.
Mr Carrie graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1988 and undertook postgraduate training in Newcastle and Sheffield teaching hospitals. He was a senior clinical and research fellow at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is an honorary lecturer at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and course director of the Newcastle Endoscopic Sinus course. He also a faculty member of several national sinus surgery courses, and has published regularly in his field of expertise. He has written several chapters in books including “Paediatric ENT”. He is a surgical examiner for the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons and past Regional training programme director for ENT in the Northern deanery.
He is a member of the British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgery, British Rhinological Society and European Rhinological Society.
